London 2012!!!

Hello Everyone!

Sorry I haven't been updating a lot, my family is really into the Olympics and we all gather around the television to watch and cheer on anyone really.
Speaking of the Olympics, there's this debate going on about whether or not Cheerleading should be an Olympic sport.
In my opinion it should be, especially all star cheerleading because of how much training and teamwork goes into the sport.
Many people think that whatever cheerleading can offer, rhythmic and artistic gymnastics have already covered, but people fail to realize that cheerleaders have to look sharp and smile and still hit their motions, their tumbling passes and their stunts.
And if not enough people cheer in the world, they could always turn it into a "Cheer and Dance" category.
Cheerleading is for sure not an expensive sport to host, so I don't see why they haven't already put cheerleading in the Olympics.
Feel free to comment, thanks for reading!

2012-2013 Season Update!

Hello Everyone!

Sorry I haven't been posting for a while, been busy with cheer practice and all.
So today I'm going to be talking about next season and my plans and goals.
Well next year for all stars I will be on the Senior Level 1 team on my all star gym and I'll be on the Junior Bantam cheer team for football cheer.
By the end of summer, I hope to get my back walkover, my front walkover and my front handspring.
By the end of next season, I hope to get my back handspring.
From September until Mid November/ Beginning of December, I will be cheering five days a week, but after that it'll only be twice a week, possibly three times a week.
I also hope that I'll be a flyer for my all star gym in the near future.
Well that's all for my goals, comment if you have any questions, thanks for reading!

Importance of Core Strength

Hello Everyone!

So today I'm going to talk about your core muscles and why they are so important.
To start off, your core muscles are the center of everything. These muscles balance you, so if your a flyer, you need to have a strong core to pull up in the air.
Also, if your a tumble, having a good core will increase power and balance while tumbling.
I had a lot of trouble getting a strong core, but after doing a few simple exercises, you'll see a big difference!
One exercise that gives you a strong core is the plank, hold it for 30 second, take a break, then start again. Increase the amount of repetitions as time goes.
Another really famous core strengthening exercise is crunches/sit-ups! This one is really self-explanatory.
There is this workout routine that my all star gym uses and I think you can get it on youtube, I'm not sure but it's called "Six Minute Abs". Really great workout and you'll get a strong core in no time!
Thanks for tuning in!

Review: Kaepa Jump cheer shoes

Hi all!!!

So today I'm going to give my review on the Kaepa Jump cheer shoes.
Here's a picture:
To begin, the Kaepa Jump is a beginner cheer shoe, i guess you could say all star level 1 and the recreational level cheerleader.
It's made out of leather and it's really durable; great for football cheerleaders!
I only use my Kaepa's for all star cheer, because I hate getting grass stains on my cheer shoes(for football I just use a pair of white sneakers from a department store).
Compared to regular cheer shoes (Nfinity, Varsity, etc.), the Kaepa Jump's are a little heavy.
If you're a flyer, these shoes aren't the best for flying, it's fairly flat at the bottom and really hard to bend, therefore there's no arch.
As with most Kaepa shoes, there's the "snap-in logos" which lets you customize your shoes and put your team's colors on your shoe.
Great shoe for beginner cheerleaders, great value(REALLY durable, worth your money).
So that's basically it, thanks for reading!

Back Walkover Blues!

Having trouble with your back walkover?
Let me share some of my tips on how I've been practicing my back walkover.

  1. Make sure you stretch your back. Doing back-bends everyday will help.
  2. Stretch your splits! If you have a good split in the air, it'll be easier to reach for the ground.
  3. Practice your kick. A strong kick equals a good walkover! Push off one good leg and reach with the other.
  4. Kicking off objects will help you get the motion of "going over". Use a small table, a box, or even the wall to help you go over.
  5. As you get better, find smaller objects to kick over (smaller table, going lower on the wall)
Hope these tips help! Tune in tomorrow for a cheer shoe review!
